When you take the shot, your responsibility doesn’t end there. At Rural Recon, we believe that every hunter owes it to the animal, the land, and the tradition to recover their game with integrity. That’s where drone deer recovery comes in. A revolutionary method that uses aerial thermal imaging to locate downed deer quickly, accurately, and respectfully.
Drone deer recovery is the use of high-tech drones equipped with thermal cameras to locate deer that have been shot but may have run out of sight. Whether it’s thick brush, fading daylight, or challenging terrain, our drone gives hunters the edge to find their harvest without delay. This ultimately reduces stress on the animal, the property, and eliminates unnecessary waste.
And here’s the truth: most deer that require a search would never be found otherwise. Without this technology, many recoveries would end in heartbreak and waste. We change that.
We’re not just flying drones — we’re upholding a code. Our team is dedicated to helping hunters fulfill their responsibility and protect the integrity of the sport. With every recovery, we reinforce the values of conservation, respect, and stewardship.
Its always free to talk it over. Call when the trail goes cold but not after the deer gets cold.
Im here to eliminate stories of ones that got away.
Please reach us at ruralrecondrones@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
It’s one of the most common questions we get—and the answer depends on a few key factors.
A deer’s body temperature starts around 101.4°F. Once it dies, that heat begins to dissipate, and our thermal drone’s ability to detect it depends on the difference between the deer’s temperature and the surrounding air—what we call the “delta T.”
• 🌡️ Warm Weather (60°F and up): We need to be on the deer within 12 hours of death for thermal imaging to be effective.
• ❄️ Cold Weather (around 30°F): We may have up to 24 hours thanks to the greater temperature contrast.
But here’s the catch—it all hinges on when the deer actually died, not just when it was shot. That’s why we ask hunters to recall every detail of the shot: angle, reaction, location, and behavior. The more we know, the better we can estimate when the clock started ticking—and the better chance we have of a successful recovery.
I've driven over 6.5 hours for a single recovery—because when it comes to tracking down a buck, I'm all in. If you're willing to have us come out and recover your deer (in a legal area), I’ll gladly give you a quote. Mileage is part of the business, but this is hands-down my favorite part: doing recoveries.
I go to great lengths to make sure incredible bucks don’t go to waste. And if I truly can’t make it, I’m connected to a solid network of pilots across Missouri. I’ll do everything I can to find someone who can help.
Give me a call—let’s have the conversation.
We deploy the Matrice 30T paired with infrared lighting—top-tier tech built for precision and performance. Every recovery includes a secondary monitor so you can watch the search unfold in real time. Half the fun is having you right there with us, engaged in the mission.
And we don’t quit early. Our continuous search capability means we show up with a fueled generator and the mindset to put in whatever it takes for success. Whether it’s a quick find or an all-night grind, we’re ready
